Success Story
„Macht Kunst!“ at the Quartier Zukunft

Deutsche Bank thrilled Berlin audiences with Macht Kunst! (Make Art). Now the Macht Kunst! event can be re-experienced in the context of a presentation at the new Quartier Zukunft (District Future) on Friedrichstrasse. On view are selected works by the prizewinners, as well as films and photos documenting the special atmosphere of Macht Kunst! The exhibition is as open and transparent as the design of Quartier Zukunft. The artworks are presented on thin support plates suspended in space. Macht Kunst! is a presentation of the new “Art, Culture & Sports” department, which is pushing forward Deutsche Bank’s art, culture, and sports activities to give employees and a broad public access to a variety of current cultural offers.

Berliner Tagespiegel newspaper called the first Macht Kunst event in 2013 “a coup.” “Inside crowds of people, outside a line that even at night was so long it seemed as though a long-lost early works by Picasso were being shown.” Deutsche Bank invited all artists and art enthusiasts in the German capital to present one work at the then new KunstHalle. It was a smashing success. In order to be able to show all of the 2,135 works submitted, Deutsche Bank organized two 24-hour exhibitions that drew more than 12,000 visitors. An expert jury selected three artists from each exhibition who were each presented in a two-week solo exhibition at the KunstHalle’s studio.

The second edition followed in 2015 – the competition Macht Kunst! Ihre Skulptur für Berlin (Make Art! A Sculpture for Berlin). 1,500 visitors flocked to the atrium of the Deutsche Bank building on Unter den Linden to view more than 400 contributions. A design by Dirk Bell was chosen and realized. As an artistic trademark, his steel sculpture 2FREE SPACE has stood in front of Deutsche Bank’s new office complex on Otto-Suhr-Allee since November 24, 2016.

Macht Kunst! is now on exhibit in one of Deutsche Bank’s most innovative branches worldwide, where digital and analog offers are brought together. In addition to a co-working space in which established entrepreneurs, startups, and creative people can use temporary workplaces flexibly, it also houses the Q Café, the Urban Garden, a Kid’s Corner, and a store with changing offers. Under the maxim “Thinking ahead together,” Quartier Zukunft is blazing new paths. So of course it features contemporary art from the Deutsche Bank Collection, which provides ideas for shaping the future and promotes unaccustomed ways of thinking. This is also reflected by a presentation of works by Deutsche Bank “Artists of the Year.” International artists such as Wangechi Mutu, Yto Barrada, Koki Tanaka, Basim Magdy, and Kemang Wa Lehulere critically shed light on socially and politically relevant issues of a globalized world.
