MACHT KUNST
Your Sculpture for Berlin

A new trademark for the town: a large-scale sculpture is planned for the area outside the new Deutsche Bank building on Berlin’s West side near Ernst Reuter Platz—and we’re looking for the most creative ideas for this prominent location. Artists and art lovers are invited to take part in an open competition. All proposals should be brought to Deutsche Bank at Unter den Linden on November 5 and 6 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. On November 7, all submitted works will be shown in the Deutsche Bank Atrium on Unter den Linden. A specialized jury comprised of Katharina Grosse (artist), Christoph Tannert (Künstlerhaus Bethanien), Friedhelm Hütte (Global Head of Art, Deutsche Bank), and Dr. Markus Wiedenmann (Executive Director, Art-Invest Real Estate) will announce the short list at the end of the show. At the same time, visitors to the exhibition will have the chance to vote on the works presented and the public’s favorite will be included in the short list. The winner selected to realize his or her work of art will be announced at the start of 2016, and the finished sculpture will be exhibited in the fall of the same year.

With this competition, Deutsche Bank picks up on its successful action MACHT KUNST (MAKE ART). In April of 2013, on the occasion of the opening of the Deutsche Bank KunstHalle, it announced an open call to submit a work of art for a 24-hour exhibition. Following an overwhelming response, a total of 2,135 works were shown in two large exhibitions, and six selected artists later presented their works in the KunstHalle Studio Gallery. “The action showed us how much artistic potential this city has to offer,” asserted Friedhelm Hütte in reference to MACHT KUNST. “After so much response, we will certainly think about how we can continue this initiative into the future.”

Now, the new building on Otto Suhr Allee provides this very opportunity. Art-Invest Real Estate is the contractor of the seven-story building, which contains office space for more than 2,200 Deutsche Bank staff members. The Technical University is close by, as are numerous scientific institutions and a center for innovation and entrepreneurs. The new building provides an important contribution to the area’s architectural development, and it’s for this reason that Art-Invest Real Estate and Deutsche Bank place a high value on incorporating art into the design of the immediate working environment and new city space.
