Homage to Joseph Beuys
Deutsche Bank’s VIP Lounge at the TEFAF
||Deutsche Bank has been cooperating with The European Fine Art Fair for a long time and is now once again present at TEFAF, which is considered to be the show of shows worldwide. This year the fair celebrates its Silver Jubilee and exhibitors bring an extraordinary array of rare and beautiful works of art to Maastricht – from antique sculptures to works bei Gerhard Richter. With around 260 exhibitors and thousands of works, this "temporary museum" again and again lures collectors from all over the world.
In 2012, Deutsche Bank’s VIP Lounge at the TEFAF stands under the sign of one of the most important protagonists of contemporary art: Joseph Beuys. As a professor at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, he influenced an entire generation of students. Many of them would make history themselves. The exhibition Beuys and Beyond—Teaching as Art from the Deutsche Bank Collection shows how unorthodox Beuys was as a teacher. In the last two years, the show has toured six renowned Latin American museums. For the first time since Beuys’ death, the artist’s work was shown in direct dialogue with that of his students Lothar Baumgarten, Jörg Immendorff, Imi Knoebel, Blinky Palermo, Katharina Sieverding and Norbert Tadeusz. A selection of highlights from Beuys and Beyond is on view in Deutsche Bank’s VIP lounge at this year’s TEFAF. The variety of works on exhibit not only illustrates the enormous effect Beuys had as a teacher. It also sheds light on an important part of recent German art history and, not least, documents how decisive Beuys’ thinking was for the genesis of the Deutsche Bank Collection.
