For the second time, Deutsche Bank has been honoured in Singapore for its cultural work. After having received the Patron of the Arts Award from the Singapore National Arts Council in recognition of its work for contemporary art, the National Heritage Board now has given Deutsche Bank its Friend of Heritage Award for the bank’s innovative education and outreach project Deutsche Bank Art Bus. Since October 2009, it has been taking schoolchildren to the renowned Singapore Art Museum (SAM), where they can engage with contemporary art in creative workshops. The Art Bus continues Deutsche Bank’s long-term partnership with the SAM. For example, in 2006 the museum showed the exhibition All the Best, with which Deutsche Bank Collection celebrated its twenty-fifth anniversary.
The project in Singapore is based on the very positive experience with the initiative Wallraff der Museumsbus, which enables classes from elementary and secondary schools to visit Cologne’s Wallraf-Richartz-Museum free of charge. In 2008, Deutsche Bank, as the initiator of this education and outreach programme, was awarded the Deutscher Kulturförderpreis from the Kulturkreis der deutschen Wirtschaft. The bus project was not just expanded to Singapore, however: In March 2010, the first Collection Tours started. As part of the European Cultural Capital RUHR.2010, more than 20,000 children and young people from the Ruhr region as well as several thousand adults can experience art of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries in the region’s museums. The Collection Tours are realised in cooperation with RuhrKunstMuseen, and made possible by Deutsche Bank.
